Nowadays I am interested when possible in keeping things around I really need I get a lot of requests to review books but only want ones that I think can be very useful or I just would like to have around … I am also trying to do a lot with being less wasteful when possible – I use paper towels but trying to use more dishtowels when possible and trying to compost… This summer I gardened and I felt so resourceful I not only produced tomatoes, eggplant, lettuce, herbs and peppers galore I shared it with my neighborhood this was extremely rewarding when I heard about the Self – Sufficiency Handbook I was so intrigued – Henry David Thoreau once said, “Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.” In the new self-sufficiency guide by gardening authors Alan Bridgewatr and Gill Bridgewater, this statement rings true. A bit ago I got a book sent to me I LOVE it is not sexy at all and I think I wrote about it before but it is like a little guide book for me called REVERSE INFLAMMATION NATURALLY and I believe that inflammation leads to a lot of issues- I have blood clotting disorder and feel I can reverse some issues it if I can relieve any inflammation in my body so I do revert to this book for tips – Reverse Inflammation Naturally !  A lot of people suffer from chronic inflammation and a lot of times it is because of our diet and also medicines that are prescribed – we need to start healing ourselves ! You will learn remedies, and all sorts of diet regiments – there are steps and fun instructions – this book was written to be very efficient and effective. I am not religious to this book but I try to follow it occassionally.

I also read because I was interested the SIRTFOOD DIET – I read it becasue on the cover there were some of my favorite things so I was interested – wine, chocolate and greens so figured I wanted to see what it was all about – I love when authors talk about the Blue Zones because if I can live to be 100 like some of the people in the blue zones I am going to follow that diet…..  The Sirtfood Diet is the culmination of years of investigational research by its founders Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten – As experts in nutritional medicine and pharmacy, Aidan and Glen have long been fascinated by the natural compounds found in plant foods, known as polyphenols, and how they can be harnessed to improve health and even treat disease. They were especially captivated by how the drug industry was vigorously exploiting plants and polyphenols for their medicinal properties to create new drugs, yet they had been virtually overlooked in the world of nutrition. Intriguingly, the diets of the slimmest, healthiest and longest lived populations around the world – known as Blue Zones – had previously shown that the one thing they had in common was they were always very rich in these precious plant nutrients, about five times the intakes we consume in the West. Spirits & Cocktails of Upstate New York: A History

Speaking of wine … I do think diets and eating healthy is so important but I do think a good cocktail is also important the same way ice cream is important — I personally don’t think you should deprive yourself — but I do think when I have a glass of wine, sherry or a cocktail or some ice cream I want it to be great – I want it to be an experience so that is why I enjoyed checking out SPIRITS & COCKTAILS OF UPSTATE NEW YORK because I am a huge fan of Upstate and the Hudson Valley area and love hearing about new cocktails -This book is called Spirits & cocktails of Upstate New York.  I have a bit more of an appreciation for rum since I had some delicious pina coladas while in Cuba and moijitos too…. From the Hudson Valley to the Niagara River, Upstate New York has a long and grand history of spirits and cocktails. Early colonists distilled rum, and pioneering settlers made whiskey. In the 1800s, a fanciful story of a tavern keeper and a “cock’s tail” took root along the Niagara River, and the earliest definition of the “cocktail” appeared in a Hudson Valley paper. The area is home to its share of spirited times and liquid legends, and the recent surge in modern distilleries and cocktail bars only bolsters that tradition.  Don Cazentre is a veteran journalist who has been writing about beer and the alcoholic beverage industry since the mid-1990s.
