So we woke up early and had the loveliest breakfast at our casa and they arranged a communal car share with us to go to Viñales – our plan was to stay over there for one night so we can see more of the ‘countryside’ of Havana. We got in a very crowded car and off we went about 2.5 hours away. In our car was Scott & myself in front seat and three other passengers in the back. It was nice chatting with a German couple that was travelling all over Cuba. We had one stop for a little coffee break and you could purchase cigars too it was a sweet little cafe off the road with lots of travelling cars and the sweetest dog.
We arrived and we were dropped off at this hotel which was so incredible – the views were breathtaking and for I believe about $6.00 each we were able to use the most beautiful pool. We had incredible weather and it was so nice to enjoy the sun and go for a swim. The hotel is : Hotel Los Jazmines
I believe it is about a five to ten minute ride into the center of Viñales where there are some great restaurants. There are places to visit around the area but a bit more spread out you could walk to some for sure.
Wikipedia says :
Viñales is a small town and municipality in the north-central Pinar del Río Province of Cuba. The town consists mostly of one-story wooden houses with porches. The municipality is dominated by low mountain ranges of the Cordillera de Guaniguanico such as Sierra de los Órganos. Typical outcrops known as mogotes complete the karstic character of the landscape.
After we enjoyed Hotel Los Jazmines we went to the place where we were staying which was so lovely – it is up a dirt road so a bit hard to find at first but then when we arrived it was this little jungle gem filled with the most incredible garden – I would say about 1,000 plants at least and this little hut. You could also go on the roof of the house – we messed up we should have watched the sunset or rise on that roof but we forgot to do that.
We stayed with Yakelin in our beautiful paradise -https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/17527994
This is about a ten minute walk from town but so worth it you feel like you just escaped to paradise.
Once settled we walked into town to visit the most incredible garden El Jardín Botanico de las Hermanas Caridad y Carmen Miranda upon arrival we had a tour and after the tour we had the most delicious Pina Colada with cinnamon in the most romantic spot in the garden. It was delightful.
Now from there we walked to the wrong place but we saw the sunset and it was so beautiful but we messed up a bit with not being able to see the organic garden at https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g616288-d4744281-Reviews-Finca_Agroecologica_El_Paraiso-Vinales_Pinar_del_Rio_Province_Cuba.html
We did get to eat there where they keep bringing out the food with tons of vegetables and then meat — and we started with what they call the stress reliever it was great. I highly recommend this as a spot if you go to Viñales.
All over Cuba there are lots of strays you want to take them all home at the restaurant we really wanted to take the little one that spent some time with us during dinner home he was so sweet. But we met as you can see a lot of dogs during our stay. We tried to feed them when we could but you worry so much about them – I hope they are ok and have good lives.
It was getting dark and we took a taxi home to wake up the next day for another journey.
