SYNERGY GLOBAL FORUM WITH MALCOM GLADWELL & GARY VAYNERCHUCK

Two conferences that I attended this year that I really enjoyed were :  Innovation Congress in the summer and most recently the Synergy Global Forum. I am so thankful to have these opportunities.  I want to thank organizers including Social Fresh and Firebrand Group for Innovation Congress.

The Innovation Congress was at the  The New School’s Tishman Auditorium.

The Synergy Global Forum was at Madison Square Garden.

Both showcased innovators discussing ideas on how to better your business tactics and just new ways of thinking.

At the Innovation Congress, I loved hearing Amy Emmerich from Refinery 29 speak about innovation and growth – she had amazing thoughts and loved hearing from Firebrand Group about The Future of Personal Branding.

I love this article that has some practical tips from the organizers

Recently at the Synergy Global Forum I went to see two awesome speakers – Malcom Gladwell who I have seen a few times and he always leaves you thinking- you have to love his format of storytelling to a point and then Gary Vaynerchuk who I have never seen speak live but I am a huge fan.  He had a speech about gratitude and empathy and patience that was super inspiring.  As an entrepreneur there are so many times I am like stop get a full time job you will make a lot more money but then I think will I be passionate about that — I love being able to be creative and supporting emerging designers and artists and don’t want to deal with all this red tape – anyway it goes back to what Gary spoke about —- be patient – think of what I am passionate about and be grateful.

“A Master Class in Disruption” presented by Synergy Global Forum 2017 dedicated itself to offering professionals and entrepreneurs in Europe, Asia and North America an unforgettable experience  -what an amazing roster !

Synergy Global Forum was recently named in an article on Inc.com as “the powerhouse event of the fallwww.synergyglobalforum.com

What did I learn from Malcom Gladwell this time around: http://gladwell.com/

Keep in mind this is all in my words– summarizing some of the main thoughts in my words – this speech was very eloquent and all tied together in real life –

He started with a story about two philanthropists and how they each gave money to schools. The first gave a large sum to a small school that was in some financial trouble and they invested in an engineering school. The other philanthropist / billionaire invested money into Harvard that already has a lot of money in the bank.

He also demonstrated how other wealthy investments over the last years have gone more to schools that are doing well then the schools that are not ??? so we should question that.

It worked back to the idea of the weak link in a way — it is hard to paraphrase but there was an interesting story that reflected a conclusion and mixed in there were things that really stood out – like the fact that some of the most major personal investments went to major colleges that are thriving instead of those that might need help and development.

Then he started talking sports which typically I hate sports references but he was breaking down how a soccer team can win a game and how a basketball team can win a game — and how the players interact the strong players vs the ones that might not be the star players….
Do I want to run my business like a soccer team or a basketball team ? Do I need to make sure I have the strongest players for the WIN and invest there or do I help my weaker links and invest there like a soccer team for the WIN.

Of course all tied together to reflect back to your own business – do you invest time and money into your strong links – will that help your business or do you invest it in the weaker links – I think it really depends on what type of business you are in – if you are in a “soccer” business or a “basketball” business but of course he gave us all something to think about — He has a book coming out soon – so exciting ! Check out what he is up to here :http://gladwell.com/

On the second day of Synergy Global Forum I saw Gary Vaynerchuk – which was amazing-I am so grateful to have him speak live – he is powerful on video but even more powerful in person  :

  • Jab, Jab, Jab Right Hook: How to tell your story in a noisy worldGary vaynerchuk

This is not the speech but there are some great notes in here that give a bit of reference to things he brought up in his speech – nevertheless you should subscribe to his newsletter and check out his podcasts he is so inspiring ! The coolest thing to see what when he asked how many people under 35 in the room how many hands went up – so many young business leaders out there.
