I finally got to visit The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze & loved it. I took my family and they loved it – it is a great place to take kids and parents and grandparents and great great grandparents. This is family fun that will put you in the mood for FALL, PUMPKINS, HALLOWEEN and just a great way to go from Summer to Fall with spirit.
It is an incredible display of artistry and we had a beautiful evening where the full moon worked against all the colors in the tree and lit it so beautifully with colors like purple, blue – it is the illumination, the lightning and set design that are incredible. You feel like you are walking through a movie set and you see circus animals, dinosaurs, dragons, and more. I don’t want to ruin the experience for you because if I post too many photos or talk too much then you won’t have the element of surprise or BOO ! in this case.
We live in Bushwick this was about 1 hour for us by car and there are tons of amazing restaurants in the area. I want to thank Karen & Tom from www.hudsonvalley.org for planning our trip to visit this special place. It is in Sleepy Hollow which is so fun and you are in beautiful surrounding towns as well.
The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze runs through Nov. 25.
The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, drew more than 160,000 visitors last year, features more than 7,000 illuminated, individually hand-carved jack o’ lanterns. Elaborate single-pumpkin carvings and huge multi-jack o’lantern constructions are professionally lit throughout the landscape of Van Cortlandt Manor in various themed areas.
It is at : Van Cortlandt Manor is at 525 South Riverside Avenue, just off Route 9 in Croton-on-Hudson. Information: www.hudsonvalley.org, 914-366-6900.
My favorite part was the Pumpkin Planetarium because I love stars and constellations and it was truly mesmerizing and just so incredible to stand under this awesome exhibition with all these colors.
The landscape is a 18th century riverside landscape – there is even a Pumpkin Zee Bridge. New this year is an awe-inspiring jack o’lantern Statue of Liberty & a 20-foot diameter Pumpkin Carousel. You can walk around and learn about your dinosaurs from an enormous T-Rex, brontosaurus, triceratops, and flying pterodactyl. There are also new gourd-filled Jack-in-the-boxes spring to life while a giant spider web spins a great #pumpkinblaze photo op.
Complete with sound effects, elaborate synchronized lighting and an all-original soundtrack by recording artist Richard Christy !
Recommended for all ages.
A shout out to Michael Natiello for his extraordinary efforts as creative director of Historic Hudson Valley’s Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze. Mr. Natiello oversees the team that brings this magical, jack o’lantern-filled event to life by planning, designing, and executing Blaze’s elaborate displays. Michael not only carves, cuts, and scraps for the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor but also curates art exhibits for the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art and the Peekskill Project.
