Ha ! I am on I-ELLA this new website that is BRILLANT – they sell items from people’s closets and money goes toward a charity – I chose THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES. I love them and all the work they do.
I am selling a beautiful Sequoia bag, Emu jacket, Chloe pumps, a Jade Jagger necklace and more.
One of the photos is by Jerritt Clark ( one of my favorite photographers) and the other is from my friend Jason Seitwan ( another one of my favorite photographers). Of course one of my favorite photographers is of course Robbie Bellon – check out his work – his website will be up on Wednesday. I think I look a little weird for some reason in the photos up on the site but the photographers are RAD! I think its just me.
Anyway I am up on the site along with an awesome lady Lala Vazquez who I had the pleasure of meeting right before fashion week – rad girl with rad style !
So here are some photos and my interview !
I-ELLA: Tell us a little about what you do.
Claudine DeSola: I have been working in the fashion industry since I went to college. I went to Marist College and came into the city during my senior year to intern at J.Crew and then WWD after that. I bounced around awhile and ended up working for Yeohlee Teng who is truly a master designer. I got to travel with her through Europe and work on gathering materials for her work. Eventually I wound up at Anthropologie, which I adore. My co-worker and I decided to start Think Creative which was originally just a PR company, but then we realized we could handle production, social media, campaigns, gorilla marketing, everything. About five years ago I started Caravan which was a retail/wardrobe/ styling concept that’s made to morph over time. We actually partnered with Starbucks Frappuccino® on our fashion show this past September, I was just so excited they picked us to work with!
I-ELLA: How would you define your personal style?
Claudine DeSola: I tend to change my style a lot, but if I had to aspire to dress like someone it would be Coco Chanel, Jacquelyn Kennedy Onassis, Carine Roitfeld, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, Margherita Missoni, and Audrey Hepburn all rolled into one!
I-ELLA: What’s the most meaningful thing in your closet and why?
Claudine DeSola: I actually just received some really special pieces. Someone went to an archival gallery and found all these incredible jewelry for me from China and Africa that’s hundreds of years old and has so much history behind it. This was such an incredible gift; the 4 pieces were my good luck charms during Fashion Week!
I-ELLA: Who’s your favorite designer or brand and why?
Claudine DeSola: Hmm, this is a tough one. I would have to say Karl Lagerfeld-not because I can afford anything but because I really love his essence. I love what he creates and how he creates, and he’s just really inspiring. Of course, I will always be a huge fan of Yeohlee.
I-ELLA: If you could trade closets with anyone for one day, who would it be and why?
Claudine DeSola: Wow, it would have been Gabrielle Chanel, but now I’m thinking Carine Roitfeld or Nicole Richie because I really love her Winter Kate collection. She has this rocker/hippie/modern twist going on and I really dig that. I never really thought of her wardrobe until recently when I saw a picture of her and I thought wow this girl is an awesome dresser, I bet her wardrobe is insane! Of course, Carine Roitfeld’s closet would be a dream too, she has the best shoe collection.
I-ELLA: What do you like to do when you aren’t busy being a fashion insider?
Claudine DeSola: Lately, I enjoy hanging out in the dog park with my dude while I’m in NYC or taking bike rides with my friends. I used to stay out really late, but now I’m happy just hanging out with people I dig and find inspiring. I work so much, and I’m always running around so in my free time I like to chill and feel loved by my friends and family. Spending time with your family and buddies is one of the best things you can do; save your money and just talk. Good conversation and communication is a gift and leads to healthy life, I believe.
I-ELLA: What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever been given?
Claudine DeSola: Go with what you love and what makes you feel comfortable. Always believe in yourself, and most importantly have fun with what you wear!
So that is me on I-ELLA! Thank you I-ELLA for including me. I think this idea is brillant and I hope that a lot of charities benefit from it.
* Also if you are in LA or travelling there check out the Cobrasnake store it is really awesome – great vintage finds! I love the Cobrasnake – he is another genius!
